Fund-a-Need 2023
Creating opportunity for all: Guaranteed Scholarships for Next Year’s Students
At each Salmon Bay annual auction, our community raises their paddles to fund a special initiative within the school. These fund-a-needs have provided much-needed funds for classroom supplies, counseling services, teacher mini-grants, and more. This year, we’re raising money for scholarships to benefit all students, kindergarteners through eighth graders.
At Salmon Bay, we believe the classroom extends beyond our building’s walls. That’s why each year, our students attend camps, participate in the Winter Enrichment Program (WEP), and go out into our community for immersive field trip experiences. We know kids grow as individuals when they explore and learn in an entirely different context, whether it’s first graders going to overnight camp for the first time, fourth graders learning about the Salish Sea aboard a historic schooner, fifth graders raising and releasing salmon at Carkeek Park, or middle schoolers trying woodshop, flamework, or skiing for the first time. Throughout our school’s history, our goal has been for every student to participate in field experiences, regardless of a families’ ability to pay the necessary fees. Friends of Salmon Bay, our school’s parent/teacher organization, helps to provide scholarships for every student who requests one. But the pandemic stretched our school’s resources, and as prices for field experiences continue to increase, it’s harder for families to afford them and more challenging for the school to plan them. Donations to our fall Direct Giving campaign helped fund scholarships this school year. With our community in greater need of scholarships than ever before, now is the time to bolster the fund for next school year in anticipation of further cost increases. Please contribute to FOSB’s scholarship fund. Every contribution helps us reduce the financial burden on families and ensures every student can go to camp, participate in WEP, attend field trips, and end next school year with the enhanced learning that these outside-the-classroom experiences provide. The scholarship funds we raise together will help school staff plan for field experiences that enrich our students’ learning across all grade levels. To raise your virtual paddle, text DISCO to 71760 to register for the FOSB online auction and click on the button titled "Donate/ Fund-a-Need." If you buy a ticket for our in-person auction on April 28, there will also be an opportunity to raise your paddle that evening. |
